How to keep your kitchen organized

Some say that the living room is the heart of the house, but if you like preparing food, you know where the real heartbeats are coming from. How many times have you looked for something in the kitchen and haven’t been able to find it? It was about time to pay some attention to it and make a plan on how to keep it clean and practical at all times. Therefore, if you keep your kitchen organized, you can count on time efficiency and stress-free use of space, whether you cook every day or occasionally.

Do you really need all those appliances?

Take a good look around. Is there anything you haven’t used in a while? Pay attention to refrigerators and bulky equipment. If you don’t have practical use of it, get rid of it and get a smaller one! You might think getting a new refrigerator is costly, but trust me, it’s not as costly as paying an unnecessary electricity bill while using the appliances halfway. Anything you have no use for anymore has to go out. And you can always get rid of it by selling it online. One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure!

Keep your kitchen organized by sorting out the cabinets

Labeling and sorting things is crucial if you like to cook. Imagine not being able to find some of the spices or some dishes during meal preparation. Therefore, make a plan where to keep different groups of things your kitchen has:

  • spices, dry goods, teas,
  • plates, pots and any kind of dishes,
  • zip lock bags, Tupperware, plastic containers, and basically everything you use for packing and food preserving
  • glasses, bottles, cups
  • spare items like soaps, cleaning supplies, garbage bags usually go under the sink

Now, all the sorting depends on the space at your disposal. But still, it’s up to you how will you prioritize the cabinets. Make sure to put things that you use on top cabinets, for easy access. As for the big dishes and anything you don’t have everyday use for, it can go in the bottom. The same goes for your fridge space. Make the best use of it.

Use the empty space and get creative!

It’s not only about keeping it clean and organized. In order to enjoy your kitchen more, give a little life to it! By adding up some details to the wall, fridge, or counters, you can make it visually appealing and even more practical. There are plenty of DIY ideas to give some spark to your kitchen. Be bold and add some colors to your life. You will notice the difference right away, even with the slightest change.

Organizing your space doesn’t have to stop there. By rearranging and making the space practical for use, we improve its functionality and reduce stress when looking for ”missing” things. I realize this can be a bit harder if you live in a small apartment and don’t have space for it. But even that can be solved by renting storage space temporarily or permanently. That way, you don’t have to get rid of your stuff and yet enjoy the commodity of your home. Like Alfred Hitchcock once said, “Happiness is a small house, with a big kitchen”.
